EDWARD CRAVEN WALKER LIGHTS

EDWARD CRAVEN WALKER LIGHTS

The lava lamp, also commonly known as the Astro Lamp was invented by British accountant Edward Craven Walker in 1963. The original lava lamp was inspired by an egg timer Edward spotted in a pub in Dorset made out of a cocktail shaker filled with liquids bubbling on a stove top – the lava lamp has been in continuous production ever since its creation in the early 1960s. The appearance of the wax is suggestive of pāhoehoe lava, which inspired the famous iconic name ‘Lava Lamp.’ The lamp contains globules of coloured wax inside a glass container which is filled with clear liquid. The wax rises and falls due to heating from a bulb underneath the vessel, giving a striking, creative effect that will add a touch of 60s inspired retro to your home.
