LOUIS POULSEN LIGHTS

Louis Poulsen, nephew of business owner Ludvig R. Poulsen took over his uncle's electrical company in 1906, based in Copenhagen. In two years Poulsen would move the business to Nyhavn 11, with Sophus Kaastrup-Olsen becoming a partner in the firm five years later. Poulsen changed the name to Louis Poulsen & Co, and in 1914 Louis Poulsen & Co. publishes its first catalogue – featuring a variety of machines and tools. In 1917, Sophus Kaastrup-Olsen bought Louis Poulsen's share in the firm for 10,000 Danish kroner, becoming the sole owner of Louis Poulsen & Co. World renowned designer Poul Henningsen began working together with Louis Poulsen in 1924, and in 1926 Louis Poulsen and Poul Henningsen were awarded a contract to provide lighting for the newly constructed Forum building in Copenhagen using the famous PH lamp with three shades. Louis Poulsen started to market light fittings, and in 1941, at the time of World War II, Louis Poulsen & Co. acquired the Laurits Henriksen metal goods factory in Copenhagen, becoming a manufacturer of lighting fittings. Louis Poulsen's product designs todaya are admired for their innovative design quality and long lasting appeal, with their projects remaining contemporary year after year. For inspiration on ways to use these lights and style inspiration please visit our Pinterest Board.
